Once a month, we watch a movie from the 1980s and give it the Cracker Classics treatment. We originally started doing this as a treat for our Patreon patrons, but now the episodes eventually show up on our regular RSS feed.
Currently, patrons get early access to Cracker Classics: ’80s Edition about three months before their wide release.
Our first six ’80s episodes were released in bulk on Christmas 2021, then one each month thereafter. You can find all the episodes below, and also what the patrons already have access to.
Faking a Salad On the Side (August 2022)
We watch When Harry Met Sally… and discuss friendships and sex. Can anyone really be friends without some sort of sexual chemistry?
Drag Your Way to Success (July 2022)
Checking out Dustin Hoffman’s career in the ’80s, we watch Tootsie to see how feminism and drag culture were portrayed back then.
I Gotta Gozer (June 2022)
Finally, we watch Ghostbusters. Will the ’80s cringe kill it for us?
Kick the Rich Off the Boat (May 2022)
We watch one of Ian’s childhood staples, Overboard. Is it as good as he remembers, or does he also have amnesia?
Richard Pryor Does a Capitalism (April 2022)
We watched another version of Brewster’s Millions, this one involving Richard Pryor and a smattering of racism.
Guns For Naughty Children (March 2022)
For Christmas, we gave our patrons the ultimate disappointment: Watching A Christmas Story and popping their nostalgic bubble.
Rational Responses to Nutrasweet Niceness (February 2022)
For Thanksgiving, we treated our patrons to a wild ride through various modes of transport with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Did we make it home in time?
The First Slice of Bacon (January 2022)
We watch the original slasher classic Friday the 13th and ponder the many creative ways to die and avenge your offspring.
Dafoe’s Immortal Beloved (Christmas 2021)
Not all ’80s movies are funny, and not all are terrible. We watched Platoon and get despondent over the horrors of war.
Lea the Worcestershirewoman (Christmas 2021)
In order to get it over with, we watch Howard the Duck and all its cringey glory.
Bubblegum Saves Aliens (Christmas 2021)
We watch They Live and discuss the importance of sunglasses, being woke, and apparently not being homeless.
Feed Me, Patrons (Christmas 2021)
Ian recently had dental surgery, so it made sense for Joshua to make him watch Little Shop of Horrors for the first time.
The Original King of Queens (Christmas 2021)
We watch the Eddie Murphy comedy Coming to America and ponder immigration and the state of New York City in the ’80s.
Ferris Bueller’s Superiority Complex (Christmas 2021)
We start with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, arguably the pinnacle of ’80s smugness and overconfidence. But will watching it again change our minds?
